From conflict zones to natural disasters, Al-Khair Foundation prides itself in being one of the first on the ground to respond. We dispatch our rapid response teams to assess the situation and provide vital support and administer life-saving aid – delivering essentials (clean water, food, shelter and medicines) to all those in need. We have responded to natural disasters and crises the world over, from Pakistan, Haiti, India, Afghanistan, Palestine, Nepal and the United Kingdom, to providing considerable support for refugees fleeing conflict in Syria, Myanmar and Yemen. AKF also has on-going relief and sustainable development projects in parts of the world where war and regular disasters have left the population without social stability and lacking opportunities.
From its very beginnings as an educational programme, Al-Khair Foundation has been committed to increasing literacy and employability skills – striving to educate the most disadvantaged, both at home and abroad, so that they may dream of a better future. Today, we build schools, sponsor educational initiatives and provide vocational training in many locations around the world, including in the UK, Somaliland, Pakistan, Palestine (Gaza) and Bangladesh. We have eight schools in our portfolio – three in the United Kingdom, one in Somaliland and four in Pakistan – from which we educate over 6,000 children. We also educate over 3,700 Palestinian children in Gaza, with our support of Palestinian children garnering acclaim from the UN.
Winter is a uniquely challenging time of year for the world’s disadvantaged communities. Threats to food security, shelter, water supplies and health risks all become more acute as the cold of winter sets in. In order to help vulnerable communities at UK and abroad during winter, Al-Khair Foundation provides hot food, warm clothes, socks and blankets, sanitation products, shelter and clean water to both the homeless of Great Britain and those living in desperate situations all across the world. Our emergency relief response teams pay particular attention during the winter months – seen recently in public accolades received for our efforts to aid the survivors of the Grenfell tower disaster, during winter 2017.
Our livelihood programmes provide people with the necessary training and skills to earn a living and support themselves. In some places around the world, we also provide direct employment opportunities to some of the most disadvantaged. With your help, we can ensure more people are able to sustainably work themselves out of poverty in the long-term and reduce dependency on short-term aid programmes.
Al-Khair stands united with everyone internationally against terrorism. It is indeed a sad day when places of worship are brutally and without remorse targeted.
