Kerala Emergency Appeal

Al-Khair Foundation has launched an emergency appeal to bring aid to the victims of the Kerala flooding.

400 have been killed and up to one million displaced by the heaviest flooding in Kerara for over a century.

Imam Qasim, Founder and Chairman of Al-Khair Foundation included a visit to Kerala as part of his three Continent tour to assess the situation and help distribute emergency aid to thousands in desperate need.

He said:"They desperately need our help and Al-Khair is responding fast delivering life-saving aid. But as I saw while on the ground myself, the whole region is struggling to cope.

“Through your generosity, lives have been saved, families are rebuilding and optimism is replacing despair. But now, more than ever, we need to increase our levels of support for those struggling to survive.”

The statistics surrounding this disaster are difficult to comprehend:

  • 500,000 homes have been destroyed in the floods
  • 25,600 electricity connections have been severed
  • 237 bridges and 11,000 km of roads have been damaged
  • People returning home from temporary camps are facing lack of water and electricity supply
  • Deadly snakes and scorpions have been washed in to homes from the floods and landslides.

Al-Khair has already delivered 2,400 relief kits to those worst affected and staff are building houses for vulnerable families and playing an active part in the continuing rescue mission.

But so much more is needed.
