Childhood in Gaza is a world away from the carefree days many of us remember. It is filled with sombre shades of anxiety, hunger, and the haunting echoes of conflict. For the youth of Gaza, every day brings scenes that no child should ever have to face. Their lives, marked by fear and uncertainty, are a powerful call to our shared humanity.

The numbers emerging from Gaza paint a grim picture of a childhood under siege. The scale of displacement is immense, with a significant portion of Gaza's population, more than half of whom are children, forced to flee their homes multiple times. In this chaos, over 20,000 innocent lives have been lost. An estimated 17,000 children have separated from their families. The number of children are reported to be over 39,000.

Hunger has become a life-threatening reality for Gaza's youngest. An alarming 1 in 3 children under the age of two suffer from acute malnutrition. This is a direct consequence of severe food and water scarcity. This deprivation not only stunts physical growth but also profoundly impacts cognitive development and threatens their future.

Education and healthcare, the two pillars of children’s growth and development, have been systematically damaged over the years. With most schools destroyed, over 658,760 children have been left without access to formal education. The very places that should be safe havens for learning and growth have become shelters for the displaced or rubble. This leaves children vulnerable to preventable diseases.

Nearly every child in the Gaza Strip, totalling around one million, needs mental health support. The emotional distress of displacement, loss, and the daily struggle for survival is leaving deep invisible scars on an entire generation. A staggering 96% of children feel that death is imminent.

These are not just numbers; they represent individual stories of profound loss and an uncertain future.

Amidst this darkness, Al-Khair Foundation’s Emergency Response Team has been working on the ground delivering essential aid. From food packs to clean water and healthcare facilities to imparting education, Al-Khair Foundation is committed to deliver humanitarian aid to address both urgent and long-term needs of the affected community.

Over 6,500 orphans have been supported through Al-Khair Foundation. Regular food parcels are distributed to help children meet their essential nutritional and hydrational needs.
