Al-Khair Foundation confirms full cooperation with statuary inquiry

Al-Khair Foundation asserts its humanitarian credentials, categorically denying links to any proscribed entity, as it cooperates fully with relevant authorities.

Al-Khair Foundation is a humanitarian organisation dedicated to supporting people most in need. We unreservedly condemn violence and extremism of all kinds. Al-Khair Foundation as an organisation categorically denies any allegation of channelling support to, supporting or assisting Hamas or any proscribed entity in Gaza or elsewhere.

The extremely serious allegations against Al-Khair Foundation stem from a complaint made by a campaigning organisation, UK Lawyers for Israel.

Al-Khair Foundation takes the allegations concerning the Foundation extremely seriously. It is cooperating fully with the statutory inquiry launched by the Charity Commission for England and Wales on 5 August 2026, in light of the arrest of Mohammad Yousef Hasna, an employee of a partner charity delivering humanitarian aid in Gaza.

In response to the seriousness of this matter, AKF filed a Serious Incident Report with the Commission before it launched its inquiry. The Foundation is responding to the Commission's questions, addressing any concerns raised, and acting where needed. It has appointed an Independent consultant to establish the facts and provide them, alongside other legal and relevant information, to the inquiry process.

Al-Khair Foundation was established in 2003, developing into a leading British charity with a distinguished record over the last two decades in delivering emergency relief and humanitarian assistance, alongside UN organisations and a number of international and governmental organisations across 70 countries around the globe.

Al-Khair Foundation's humanitarian work has reached women, children and families facing war, famine, displacement and natural disasters, often in some of the world's most dangerous and difficult environments. Over more than two decades, this work has enabled a British charity to support millions of people across the globe at some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.

Four Al-Khair schools operate in the UK, all rated 'good' at their most recent standard Ofsted inspections. The schools are operationally separate from the charity's humanitarian and aid work, and have no connection to Mr Hasna. The schools recognise the need for questions from the Department for Education and are responding to all of them.

Whilst we operate in some of the world's most challenging and complex environments, often politically sensitive, where delivering humanitarian assistance can present significant operational and practical challenges, we are clear our work has a single purpose: to ensure that, through the generous support of our donors, the funds entrusted to us reach those desperately in need of aid and humanitarian assistance and support their lives for the better.

Al-Khair Foundation is deeply committed to supporting those in need in Gaza. Our significant support over many years has included providing food parcels, hot meals, clean water, medical aid, shelter materials, winter assistance, and orphan and family support. Our programmes have helped sustain large numbers of vulnerable families, reduce hunger, and maintain lifesaving assistance in exceptionally difficult conditions.

In Gaza and around the world we work hard to maintain robust governance, compliance and oversight processes designed to help ensure that aid reaches its intended beneficiaries. We hope the inquiry process will allow us to present evidence that will establish the facts of the work of AKF, and the realities of our humanitarian operations in Gaza. This matter should be evidence-led and treated with the care and seriousness it deserves.
